Mid back pain is a kind of pain felt in the area below your neck and above your waist or lower back. Your middle back is made up of 12 vertebrae which are part of the thoracic section of your spine. Your middle back is naturally strong and stable as it is connected to your rib cage. The elastic cartilages found between each bone serve as shock absorbers. There are also muscles and tendons providing stability to your back.
There are many different problems that could trigger your mid back pain. Causes of pain in the middle back include:
- Poor posture
- Emotional stress
- Improper lifting
- Accidental trauma
- Tightening of the diaphragm
- Standing for hours
- Sleeping uncomfortably
- Muscle strains
If the middle part of your spine is directly injured, it can cause issues to occur from the pinched nerves to blood sugar-controlling organs. Within that spinal region, there are pairs of spinal nerves emitting from the middle back to various digestive parts. These include your stomach, liver, gall bladder and small intestine. Problems in communicating with your nerves may lead to various digestive disorders. There are also nerves in the middle back leading to your heart which can bring heart irregularities.
Mid Back Pain Treatment
Our experienced Chiropractors will take a thorough history and physical exam. The extensive diagnostic skills of our Chiropractors allows them to develop a treatment plan to correct the root cause of your mid back pain problem.
Our method of treating your mid back pain differs to most traditional methods. We have great success in combining our gold standard soft tissue therapy with chiropractic treatment. Our Chiropractors use their hands to perform Active Release Techniques ®. This medically patented therapy physically removes adhesions in your muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and other soft tissue affecting the pain across the middle of your back. Chiropractic adjustments are performed by applying precise and gentle adjustments to your problem areas. If you have chronic or severe middle back pain, we may elect to use a very effective form of sound wave therapy called Shock Wave Therapy (it’s not electrical).
Additional services our Chiropractors provide include exercises, pelvic stabilisation, ergonView Postomics, and patient education. Exercise and rehabilitation are very important to prevent your pain from becoming chronic. Many patients are relieved from their mid back pain after a few visits and patients benefit in maintaining chiropractic care regularly because it keeps their bodies in optimum condition.
