What to expect at your first chiropractic visit

Your first chiropractic visit includes a discussion about your health-related history, goals, concerns, expectations, and treatment options. Our chiropractors will also provide treatment on your first visit.

We start with a series of focused examinations including neurological, orthopedic, postural, and other movement assessments. This will give our chiropractors a better insight into your condition by examining your joints, nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia.

After an explanation of what we have found, treatment is delivered. We are experts in delivering soft tissue therapy and when warranted, chiropractic adjustments. By using a range of techniques, we feel this gives you the best chance of getting back into action.

While it is not unusual to feel the difference immediately, results can vary depending on your condition.

At each follow-up chiropractic visit, we test and retest to make sure we are on the right track. Our chiropractors may also adjust their approach.

How many times do I need to see a chiropractor?

Your treating chiropractor will give an honest estimate of how many chiropractic sessions they expect to see you for to resolve your condition. All our chiropractic treatment plans are personalised to your condition and there are no contracts.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

We do not require a medical referral from a GP or specialist to see one of our chiropractors in our private chiropractic practice.

However, in some instances, if you have a chronic musculoskeletal condition, you may qualify for a GP referral as per below. This also means you may make a Medicare Claim Online and receive a rebate for up to 5 chiropractic treatments per year after you’ve paid for your chiropractic visit with us.

Can I claim a Medicare Rebate for chiropractic care?

Yes, if you have a chronic musculoskeletal condition for 6 months or more if you qualify for a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan (formerly known as Enhanced Primary Care or EPC). You may claim up to 5 Allied Health services per year as part of this plan, including chiropractic treatment. To find out if you qualify for a CDM Plan, visit your GP.

If you qualify for a CDM Plan, then we will require a referral from your GP if chiropractic treatment is included in the plan.  Please call us before your first visit so we can organise a copy of your referral.

For more information, see our article on How To Claim An Allied Health Medicare Rebate For Chiropractic Care.

Do you accept Private Health Cover Rebates for chiropractic care?

Yes, we accept private health cover claims from all funds.

Get instant Health Fund Cover claims/rebates with our HICAPS facility at our front desk. HICAPS has partnered with 100% of Australian health insurers to make processing claims easier for patients and health practitioners Australia-wide and lists their participating health funds on their website.

All our treatments are covered under “Chiropractic” if you have “Extras” as part of your Private Health Cover.

Payments for our services are processed at the time of your consultation. This means you effectively pay a gap between our chiropractic fees and your rebate amount. This rebate amount depends upon your level of Private Health Cover.

Please call your health fund directly to ask about your rebate level as this is specific to your health insurance plan.

Please bring your Private Health Card with you to all appointments. It is usually difficult to make Health Fund claims retrospectively through our HICAPS facility for past appointments. However, retrospective claims may be made directly with your private health fund.

How can I pay for my chiropractic treatment?

We accept Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, and EFTPOS. If you choose to pay in cash, please try and bring the exact amount.

What medical information should I bring to my first chiropractic visit?

If you have existing X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, or other imaging relevant to your current condition, please bring these to your first visit.

Depending on your problem, we may also refer you for an X-ray, CT scan, and MRI. These images help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you.

These types of imaging may also alert us of any fractures, tumors, infections, and congenital anomalies. They can also act as blueprints of your skeleton and will help us detect any abnormalities and accelerated degeneration.

What should I wear to my chiropractic appointment?

When visiting one of our chiropractors, it’s best to wear comfortable, stretchy, or loose-fitting clothing that allows for ease of movement. We also find some patients prefer to bring shorts and a suitable top.

Wearing loose-fitting clothes allows our chiropractors to conduct a thorough examination and give treatment without any restrictions. Please avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothing like jeans as this may limit your mobility during the session. Additionally, it is best to avoid wearing any jewelry or accessories that may interfere with the treatment.

While it’s best if you come changed for your chiropractic session, we can also accommodate a quick change in one of our chiropractic rooms.

Please also note we have female bathrooms available on Level 5 and the men’s bathrooms are located on Level 4 within the building’s stairwell. No access card is required to use the bathrooms during normal business hours.

Our chiropractic clinic is located at Pitt Street, near Martin Place and opposite Angel Pl in the Sydney CBD.
