What to expect at your treatment visits

Our care is much like building a house whereby certain events happen in a particular order so everything stands strong and works correctly. For example, if you tried putting up walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse.

The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. At Active Muscle and Spine, our plan of care has three phases as follows:

Phase 1: Relief

Our Chiropractors’ aim is to get patients back to a fully functioning condition, so they can carry on with everyday activities. If you are in pain when you come into our clinic, the first objective is to help you feel better.

Treatments during this phase tend to be more frequent and we typically recommend treatments 1-2 times per week for 3 or more weeks, depending on the severity of your problem.

Phase 2: Corrective

While you may have experienced pain or symptom reduction or elimination in the Relief Phase, it is important to continue with this phase to restore full functionality and prevent a relapse of the good work achieved during the Relief Phase. During the Corrective phase, your body’s flexibility is restored and muscles are strengthened, thereby helping prevent injury.

Phase 3: Maintenance

Once your body is fully healed, it is now important to continue with periodic treatment to avoid problems in the future. During this phase we may incorporate further soft tissue treatment, chiropractic adjustments, exercise programs, stretching and the like. Your practitioner will discuss our maintenance care with you to ensure it fits in with your lifestyle and goals.

During this phase of care, we usually recommend 1-2 visits per month.
